Celebrate Language May 2025!

May of Languages 2025 at the LLM

The Mai des Langues, organised as part of the activities of the Agence pour l'Enseignement Français à l'Etranger (AEFE), promotes multilingualism and cultural openness in the network's schools. It encourages the discovery of new languages and dialogue between cultures.

In 2025, the Lycée Louis Massignon is enthusiastically celebrating the May of Languages, initiated at the end of April by El Día de la Lengua Española and Shakespeare Day, the two events that launched this year's event. The month will be punctuated by a host of enriching initiatives, including a bilingual French-Arabic dictation in partnership with the Zayed School, an awareness-raising session on French sign language led by an expert speaker, and a meeting dedicated to the Franco-German friendship with the German school GISAD. These highlights of the year give everyone an opportunity to explore linguistic diversity and forge strong cultural links. A truly enriching experience for all our pupils!

Language May 2025: LLM and GISAD celebrate Franco-German friendship!

On 8 May, as part of the May of Languages, GISAD, the German International School of Abu Dhabi and the Lycée Louis Massignon shared a wonderful intercultural encounter based on languages, stories... and their Franco-German friendship.

The day began with a warm welcome from Mrs Gouix, Principal of the LLM, who welcomed the students along with Mr Rothfritz, Principal of GISAD.
Both took the floor to pay tribute to the richness of this collaboration and to reaffirm the importance of strengthening the links between our two schools through joint cultural and linguistic projects.

Pupils in Mme Mistrot's Seconde and Première (LLM), Mme Müller's 10. Klasse and Mr Seidel's 11. Klasse (GISAD) first rediscovered the classic tales of the Grimm brothers and Charles Perrault, before taking up a creative challenge: reinventing Little Red Riding Hood in a modern version, in German and French!

Divided into Franco-German groups, the pupils wrote, performed and presented their stories in front of their classmates, in a great atmosphere of sharing and learning.

Three groups were rewarded for their originality and staging, each receiving a diploma and a storybook.

A big thank you to Ms Alexia Arbaud for supervising the students, to our CDI team for their invaluable help, and to all the teachers involved in making this wonderful exchange a success!

Well done to the students for their creativity and enthusiasm, and long live the Franco-German friendship!

The Spanish class celebrates Language May with the Palaver Tree of Life

As part of Language May 2025, Hispanic students in 3ème at the Lycée Louis Massignon celebrated El Día de la Lengua Española (23 April) with an original, collaborative project: "The Tree of Palaver Life", inspired by a Mexican tradition.

The árbol de la vida is a traditional terracotta sculpture from Metepec in Mexico. A symbol of the universe, fertility and cultural heritage, it is adorned with flowers, animals and characters who tell stories that combine belief and modernity.

Echoing this tradition, our pupils came up with a word tree, displayed in the courtyard: each pupil chose striking Spanish words, for their beauty, sound or origin, and highlighted them on coloured leaves.

This artistic and linguistic project is a great way of bringing the Spanish language to life in a different way, through words and creativity.

Find out more in this video, produced to share the different stages of this great collective adventure.

Grade 6 students from the British International Section bring Shakespeare to life!

On April 23rd 2025, our Grade 6 students from the British International Section celebrated Shakespeare Day - honoring both the Bard's birthday and the anniversary of his death.

Dressed as some of his most iconic characters, students paraded through the GS and CP classes, bringing joy and curiosity to our youngest learners. From Juliet's elegance to Macbeth's ambition, and from Puck's mischief to Queen Elizabeth I's royal presence - the Shakespearean spirit was everywhere!

But the celebration didn't stop there! The students then took their energy and knowledge to the middle and high school buildings, challenging teachers, directors, and staff with trivia questions about Shakespeare's life, the Elizabethan era, and his timeless works.

It was inspiring to see that Shakespeare's legacy still sparks curiosity and fun across all ages.

A big bravo to our Grade 6 students for their creativity, confidence, and energy - a true celebration of literature in action!

Long live the Bard!
