Discover French sign language at the Mai des Langues event

Language May was celebrated with enthusiasm at the Lycée Louis Massignon in Abu Dhabi. The Lycée Louis Massignon organised French sign language workshops in classes from nursery to 5th year, led by Ms Villeminot, to raise awareness among pupils of the need to include their deaf and hard-of-hearing classmates.

LLM Cafés also brought parents together for workshops to promote language learning at home. These events were an opportunity to celebrate linguistic diversity, involving both students and their families in a process of opening up to multilingualism. A truly enriching experience for all pupils!

Sign language in the spotlight at LLM Cafés

On 10 and 17 May, as part of Language Month, the Lycée Louis Massignon organised LLM Cafés bringing together parents of students to discuss languages and multilingualism.

On 10 May, Maternelle and CP parents attended a friendly breakfast on this subject. Our teaching teams led a workshop to encourage parents to promote and enrich language learning at home.

A week later, on 17 May, it was the turn of the parents of CE and CM pupils to be invited. The aim of these meetings was to establish ongoing communication with families, support them in monitoring their children's progress at school and answer any questions they may have.

After a welcome speech, the parents split into small groups to discuss languages and ways of stimulating pupils' multilingualism. Mrs Gouix, Headmistress, Mr Fontaine, Head of Primary, our teachers, the Inclusion team and Mrs Villeminot, a sign language specialist, were the key speakers.

In celebration of Language Month, these events served to highlight the linguistic diversity within the school. We would like to extend our warmest thanks to all the parents who attended, with a special mention for Mme Villeminot's fascinating talk.

On 10 May, our expert also continued to introduce our pupils to French sign language (LSF). From nursery to Year 5, she shares her knowledge with pupils who are curious and enthusiastic about discovering this language in its own right.
With lively demonstrations and concrete examples such as "Mummy", "Daddy", "Hello", "Thank you", etc., as well as dynamic interactions, Ms Villeminot succeeded in teaching the children the basics of LSF, which they can now use in their everyday lives!

Many thanks to Mrs Villeminot for her dedication to our school community, and to the Inclusion Unit for initiating this wonderful initiative.

The 5th B class discovers French sign language

On 30 April, class 5 B took part in an exciting workshop on French sign language (LSF), in the presence of the Inclusion Unit.

Our students learnt how to address their teacher and ask everyday questions using sign language. They have also been introduced to sign language.

The students were very interested and asked lots of questions, demonstrating their openness to this form of non-verbal communication.

This workshop enabled them to discover the richness of LSF and to develop their awareness of the inclusion of deaf and hard-of-hearing people. An enriching experience for all!
