Year 11 and 12 students enrolled in the SVT speciality at the Lycée Louis Massignon enjoyed a unique experience in the heart of the fascinating landscapes of the United Arab Emirates. Accompanied by their teachers, they discovered the Hajar Mountains, a veritable geological treasure trove.
This trip enabled them to walk on the Earth's ancient mantle, observe an old magma chamber and observe solidified lava flows. The students discovered traces of a vanished ocean that separated Arabia from Asia 100 million years ago.
During their visit to the Wadi al Hilo, they came across some intriguing archaeological remains. Near Dibba, they unearthed fossils dating back 40 million years, a direct dive into the history of life on Earth.
At Ya'kil, our explorers crossed a picturesque oasis before coming across some curious camels, a moment that added a friendly touch to their scientific journey.
A life-size apprenticeship
Thanks to this trip, the geology of the Emirates no longer holds any secrets for our 42 students, who are supervised by a team of dedicated teachers: Mr Serrano, Ms Awina, Mr Berthier, Ms Neethling, Mr Amayra and Mr Boillot.
Well done to our students for their enthusiasm and thirst for knowledge!
