Green Ramadan: committed and active, even from a distance

Despite recent events, our teams remain fully committed to ensuring the continuity of teaching and enabling our pupils to continue their learning in the best possible conditions.
The ‘Green Ramadan’ project, which forms part of an initiative to promote education for sustainable development and citizenship, was launched this week by Ms Emna Lahiani, a life and earth sciences teacher, and Ms Faneva Razafindrainibe, a secondary school teacher-librarian, with classes 2A and 5A.
It forms part of the Big Green Legacy environmental programme run by ADEK, in line with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The Year 2A class explored the hidden pollution caused by chewing gum (SDGs 11 and 12): its composition, which is based on plastic polymers, and its effects on soil and the environment. Following this discussion, the pupils designed awareness-raising posters to encourage more responsible behaviour within the school.
The Year 5A class explored the theme «Saving the planet starts on our plates» (SDG 12): understanding the impact of food waste during Ramadan on water, energy and waste, with a view to adopting more responsible practices, both at school and at home.
We would like to extend our warmest thanks to all the teaching staff at Lycée Louis Massignon for their exemplary commitment to distance learning.
Well done also to the pupils for their wonderful creations, which you can see here.
These initiatives illustrate the commitment of the Lycée Louis Massignon, a member of the UNESCO Associated Schools Network, to education for sustainable development and global citizenship.
