For Printemps des Poètes 2025, students at the Lycée Louis Massignon had the pleasure of working on the theme of "Volcanic Poetry", an invitation to the effusion of feelings and the emotional intensity of words.
Through these projects, we wanted to remind people that literary learning also involves poetry, by experiencing literature through emotions and the expression of feelings.
Here are a few highlights:
1️⃣ Escalier Poétique: The schoolchildren decorated the stairs with extracts from poems. Ma Bohème by Arthur Rimbaud was a particular highlight, dedicated to the first-year students taking the baccalaureate, to remind them of the importance of freedom and hope.
2️⃣ Poetry Challenge: On Friday 21 March, to mark Poetry Day, the pupils took up a poetry challenge in which they recited poems with specific constraints (intonation, position, in front of an audience other than their own class). It was a fun way to unleash their creativity while experiencing poetry first-hand.
3️⃣ Offer a poem: To mark World Poetry Day on 21 March, the students copied down poems and offered them to a person of their choice, a simple but meaningful way of sharing the beauty of words.
A big thank you to the whole team of literature teachers at the collège for these enriching initiatives, which have enabled us to experience and share literature to the full by awakening our emotions.
Grade 6A SIB Students Share Poetry and Kindness at SSMC for World Poetry Day
On March 21st, our Grade 6A SIB students took part in a heartwarming outing to Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City (SSMC), spreading smiles, words, and flowers as part of the global "Gift a Poem campaign.
This initiative, organized by the Polish National Commission for UNESCO, ASPnet Poland, and the Zbigniew Herbert Foundation in collaboration with the ASPnet International Coordination Unit, is a beautiful tribute to World Poetry Day, celebrated on March 21st, 2025.
Our students embraced the spirit of the campaign by thoughtfully selecting or composing poems to share with patients at SSMC. Some drew inspiration from famous poets, while others penned heartfelt pieces of their own. Carrying both their words and flowers, they offered these gifts personally, bringing a sense of calm, connection, and care to each room they visited.
In their gentle and sincere interactions, the students brought more than just poetry-they shared presence, compassion, and hope. This simple yet powerful act reminded everyone that kindness, in all its forms, is deeply healing.
We are incredibly proud of our students for representing our school with empathy and creativity. Their poetic voices and open hearts made a meaningful impact today, and we celebrate their beautiful contribution to World Poetry Day.
