Green transmission: intergenerational sharing of ecological knowledge

Guided by Ms Lahiani, pupils in Years 6 A and B had the opportunity to learn a key chapter of their science syllabus in an original and practical way. The topic covered, The place of living beings in the food chaincame to life through an inspiring project in which they studied the disintegration of materials in nature: organic versus non-organic, biodegradable versus non-biodegradable, and how these different materials interact in different environments such as soil or cement.

This approach enabled pupils to observe the factors influencing the fate of waste and to gain a better understanding of pollution and global warming. More than just a simple lesson, this workshop combined theory and practice in a fun way, while raising awareness of environmental protection among the younger generation.

The culmination of this process was the passing on of this knowledge by the 6ème pupils to the Grande Section pupils, illustrating a fine example of intergenerational sharing as part of the BIG GREEN LEGACY. The aim of the project is to leave a lasting ecological legacy, with older children setting an example by becoming ambassadors for the planet to younger children.

Well done to our young and not-so-young pupils for their commitment to the environment, and to their teachers Ms Lahiani, Ms Fongaro and Ms Sonzogni for this wonderful ecological initiative!
