To mark Ramadan, the Lycée Louis Massignon (LLM) has set up a number of initiatives during the month of March 2024 to raise awareness among its students of the issues of sustainability, solidarity and social responsibility, in line with the national identity of the United Arab Emirates and local cultural values. This period of reflection and sharing, marked by generosity and benevolence, is an ideal opportunity to reinforce these values and implement concrete projects. The LLM is inspired by the vision of Sheikh Zayed, founder of the Emirates, who has always emphasised sustainability, cooperation and commitment to the community.
This same vision is reflected in the actions undertaken by the school, which also resonate with the commitments made by Sultan Al Jaber, President of COP 28, for a more sustainable future. The LLM also attaches particular importance to civic education, to belonging and to the involvement of its students in eco-responsible and voluntary actions, which echo the values of the school programme and the spirit of solidarity that drives us on a daily basis. These actions help to strengthen understanding of heritage, cultural values and citizenship, all of which are essential to building a sustainable, caring community.
SOLIDARITY AND GENEROSITY
United by sharing and solidarity!
At the Lycée Louis Massignon, solidarity and sharing are at the heart of our commitments. During Ramadan, we had the opportunity to support those most in need.
Until 20 March, the LLM organised a collection of donations in aid of the Abu Dhabi Red Crescent Association. Thanks to the generosity of our community, we collected more than 40 boxes of foodstuffs as well as hygiene and baby products.
Following the collection, a group of volunteer students from Terminale got fully involved in organising an iftar for people in need. These students played an active role in setting up and preparing the tables in a tent where the iftar was served.
A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to this wonderful initiative! Together, we were able to offer support and comfort to those in need.
Working together for disability: the Bouchons Solidaires operation at LLM
Watch our video on the operation Bouchons Solidairesa project led by our eco-delegates. The aim of this initiative was to collect plastic corks from classes, school life, the CDI and administration offices, and send them to France. These corks are sold by the association Handicap-Prévention. The money raised helps to fund essential equipment for people with disabilities, such as wheelchairs, Braille pens and much more.

The aim? Supporting and helping young people with language difficulties. With patience and kindness, these pupils offered a valuable helping hand to their fellow pupils, strengthening the links between students of different levels and cultivating mutual aid and solidarity.
A great initiative that proves that every gesture, however small, can have a big impact!
GRATITUDE AND KINDNESS
MSA students show their gratitude during the month of Ramadan
In a show of solidarity and recognition, the pupils of Moyenne Section A wanted to express their gratitude in French, English and Arabic to all the bus nannies and all the people who look after their safety and well-being on a daily basis.
This holy month is an opportunity to highlight these discreet but essential people who ensure their comfort and safety. The pupils took a moment to thank all those who help to create a safe and pleasant environment for them, both at school and on their journeys.
A big thank you to all those who, through their dedication, play an active part in ensuring the serenity and fulfilment of our pupils.
CULTURE AND HERITAGE
Reading, Heritage and Commitment: An Initiative of the Lycée Louis Massignon
Firmly rooted in its host country, the Lycée Français Louis Massignon makes it a point of honour to promoting Emirati heritage and culturewhile encouragingcommunity and linguistic involvement of its students.
As part of 'The Year of Community Service', our 5C pupils recorded, in Arabic and English, a poem by Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Prince of Dubai, celebrating Fridays and their importance in Emirati culture. They also gave voice to inspirational quotes from Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, conveying wisdom and universal values.
This initiative, supported by the CDI, Mrs Lahiani (SVT teacher) and Mrs Zegdane (Webradio manager), is part of a partnership with the SSMC hospital. The aim? To offer patients a moving and enriching experience through the power of words and culture.
A meaningful project that combines reading, language transmission and commitment citizenand illustrates, once again, the LLM's commitment to the culture and the spirit of solidarity.
Discovering Qasr Al Watan, between cultures and identities
During the week of 10 March, Grande Section pupils had the chance to visit Qasr Al Watan, the presidential palace in Abu Dhabi, a true architectural masterpiece and symbol of the Emirates' cultural heritage. Today, the palace hosts numerous official visits and state events, and embodies the richness and preservation of the nation's culture.
Having studied the gardens of châteaux in class, in particular those of Versailles, the children were able to compare the majesty of the gardens of the presidential palace with the splendid French layout. The children marvelled at the beauty of the place, both outside, with its carefully landscaped gardens, and inside, where they discovered a majestic setting. The visit was an opportunity for them to use the vocabulary they had learnt in class, in both Arabic and French.
This experience enabled our students to Gain a better understanding of the importance of Emirati heritage and the preservation of Emirati traditions, while connecting with France's cultural heritage. A great opportunity to strengthen their sense of pride and belonging to our host countryIt also enriches their open-mindedness and understanding of different cultures.

CITIZENSHIP AND RESPECT FOR THE ENVIRONMENT
Raising awareness of water saving: our schoolchildren in action!
After launching a campaign to raise awareness of the need to save water, with posters all over the school, our schoolgirls decided to go even further...
This project was initiated by our CDI librarians, Ms Faneva Razafindrainibe and Ms Vanessa Bonnet., and supported by Mrs Emna Lahiani, SVT teacher. They have produced a video to encourage the entire LLM community to adopt a simple but essential gesture: Turn off the taps to save water!
This initiative is fully in line with the LLM's membership of the
Saving energy through technology
As part of their efforts to raise awareness of sustainable development, Mrs El Zyr and Mrs Azzam's pupils from classes 4C and 4A have designed a intelligent lighting system. The objective is simple: turn on the lights only when the room is dimly lit. If there is enough light, a screen displays the message "Don't waste energy" to remind everyone of the importance of limiting energy waste in their daily lives.
It's a great initiative that combines technology and ecology, and encourages us to think about simple ways to protect our planet.
Cook & Fuel: Turning oil into energy!
This year, the Lycée Louis Massignon took part in the Cook & Fuel operation, in collaboration with Reloop and Ma'an. Volunteer pupils put their used oil in a bottle and took it back to school.
Why should we do this? To prevent this oil from being thrown into the environment and to transform it into biofuel for school buses.
Thanks to them, 29 bottles of used oil were collected, a total of 43 litres!
This action will continue over the coming weeks.
Learning also means taking action!
ELCE 4th form students explore sustainability and giving in Masdar City
As part of an exciting educational trip, our 4th graders in the European Language and Culture option (ELCE) recently visited Masdar City, a global hub for sustainability and innovation. Accompanied by experts, the pupils undertook an enriching visit, discovering new and innovative ways of protecting the environment and using resources responsibly.
The experience didn't stop there! After the visit, the students rolled up their sleeves to take part in a hands-on community workshop with Eedama Sustainabilityusing natural and organic ingredients to make homemade beauty and hygiene products such as lip balm, scrubs, deodorants and moisturisers. With creativity and care, they packaged these skincare products in handmade boxes, adding heartfelt messages of support.
The highlight? These beautifully prepared gift packs were donated to Masdar City's workers' yards, spreading kindness while reinforcing the values of sustainability and social responsibility. Through this immersive experience, our students not only deepened their understanding of eco-responsible living, but also embraced the spirit of giving through a handmade gift.
Raising awareness of mental health
As part of the Ramadan period and the Year of Community Service, students in the 2AB NSIB and 2C classes have prepared awareness campaigns on a crucial subject: mental health.
This project enabled students to study the definitions, causes, consequences and solutions associated with mental health. By sharing their knowledge and research, these young people have made their fellow students aware of the importance of mental well-being.
On Friday 21 March 2024, these pupils had the opportunity to present their project to the classes of CM1 F, CM2 SIB and CM2A, during the English classes of Dana Itani and Michelle Ibarra. This exchange was an opportunity to strengthen links between pupils at different levels, while focusing on mental well-being from an early age.
